Overview Honors and Research
As a sociology major, you are developing the research skills to investigate the questions that interest you. You are learning how to conduct surveys, interviews, systematic observation, and to evaluate sources. The research skills, critical thinking, and strong writing that you are developing as a sociology major—are highly valued by prospective employers and graduate schools.
We encourage you to take advantage of unique opportunities to work individually with our faculty and to pursue your interests in specific areas of sociology. We have two main programs in which students can conduct their own research with sociology faculty:
- our Honors Seminar in Sociology I and II (SOCI 480 and SOCI 481)
- Mason's OSCAR Undergraduate Research Scholars Program
- Service and Community-based Learning
If you have any questions, please contact our Sociology Undergraduate Program Director Professor Patricia Masters.
