Advising for Anthropology Majors

Welcome to Mason's Anthropology Program! 

We look forward to working with you during your studies and encourage you to meet with your SOAN academic advisor regularly - at least once per semester. In addition to assisting with course selection, your advisor is available to discuss your:

Degree progress

• Understanding degree requirements
• Running a degree evaluation
• Developing a graduation plan

Educational goals

• Declaring a minor or double major
• Studying abroad
• Pursuing honors in the major
• Applying to accelerated master's or other graduate programs

Career plans

• Searching for internships
• Preparing for a job search with guidance from University Career Services
• Connecting with program alumni

Advising Appointments

For Fall 2025, current majors and minors in Anthropology should email chssadv@gmu.edu to request an advising appointment. To declare a major or minor in Anthropology or any programs affiliated with the Sociology and Anthropology Department, please also email chssadv@gmu.edu.
