Declare a Major or Minor

How to Declare a Major in Anthropology

If you'd like to declare Anthropology as your major, the process is fairly simple. If you haven't yet applied to George Mason, simply select your degree of choice during the application process. If you're already a student but want to become a sociology or anthropology major, follow these steps:

  • First, print and fill out the Change/Declaration of Academic Program form.
  • Then, have it signed by the SOAN academic advisor in Robinson Hall B, Room 441, or by the department main office in Robinson Hall B, Room 305.
  • Finally, submit the completed form to Enrollment Central, located on the ground floor of SUB I.

Students interested in Anthropology are encouraged to stop by during office hours to meet with an advisor to complete the paperwork and learn more about the program.

How to Declare a Minor in Anthropology

If you've already declared your major in another department but would like to minor in anthropology or immigration studies, the process is basically the same.

  • First, print and fill out the Undergraduate Minor Declaration form.
  • Then, have it signed by the SOAN academic advisor in Robinson Hall B, Room 441, or by the department main office in Robinson Hall B, Room 305.
  • Finally, submit the completed form to Enrollment Central, located on the ground floor of SUB I.

Students who complete all of the requirements for their chosen minor will be conferred the minor upon graduation. See the requirements for anthropology minors, and immigration studies minors.
