Jason Houser is a PhD student in Sociology at George Mason University, with research interests in public sociology, U.S. immigration, and the implications of technology on modern society. His academic work builds on two decades of experience in national security, public policy, and political strategy.
Before beginning his doctoral studies, Jason served as Chief of Staff at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from 2021 to 2023—the agency’s highest-ranking political appointee at the time. He currently serves as a Homeland Security and Intelligence expert within GMU's Rapid Prototype Research Center within the College of Engineering and Computing.
Previously, Jason held leadership roles across the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including positions at the Office of Intelligence & Analysis, Customs & Border Protection, and the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office. He also served as a Foreign Engagement Officer for U.S. Cyber Command, managing partnerships across Europe, Israel, and the Middle East.
In addition to his civilian work, Jason is a decorated U.S. Navy Reserve Intelligence Officer with over 15 years of service, including a deployment to Afghanistan and a term as Senior Instructor in the Department of Political Science at the U.S. Naval Academy.
Jason holds a Master’s in Public Policy from George Mason University and is an alumnus of the National Security Executive Leadership Program at the Harvard Kennedy School.
