Kayla Valdivieso is a first year sociology PhD student. After earning her BA in religion from Pepperdine University, she worked for several years in academic libraries while earning her MS in library and information science from San Jose State University. She is now pursuing her PhD in sociology to further her research interests including how religious ideas and institutions shape emotions surrounding sexual behavior and experiences, how religion impacts access to sex education, and social determinants of sexual and reproductive health and decisions. In her free time, she enjoys vegan baking, quilting, and spending time with her partner and dog.
