Sociology: antiracism, Afrofuturism, Afropessimism, religion, whiteness, ethnography, sociological theory

R.A. Saxton is a first-generation PhD candidate in Sociology, holding a MS in Global Affairs from New York University and a BA in Sociology from Ohio University. His research interests were sparked by the not-guilty verdict in the Trayvon Martin trial, a long-standing interest in the power of science fiction, and personal experiences navigating the intersections of race and religion in the United States. His dissertation is a qualitative study focusing on Black activists' practices of care for generating and sustaining hope in the future, for themselves and others.

In his professional life, R.A. has been a grants professional since 2008. He spent a five years as a nonprofit grantwriter before transitioning to grants administration, first at National Endowment for Democracy and since 2013 at George Mason University's Office of Sponsored Programs, where he is now Research Administration Manager. R.A. also has been a guest lecturer and adjunct, teaching Introduction to Sociology and Social Problems.
