Scholar Activist Summit

Past Event

Johnson Center, Meeting Room A

We are members of the Public Sociology Association here at GMU, which is a group created by Ph.D. students in the Sociology Department who are committed to being activists and engaged community members whose scholarship reflects and is affected by those commitments. Because of our connections to issues and organizing activities on campus and off, we wanted to bring together a community on campus with people like you who are doing important social justice and liberation work to create a network to share our successes, failures, and lessons for us to collectively learn from. To that end, we have arranged for a “Scholar Activist Summit” to happen on Friday, September 1st in hopes that we can gather together and talk about forming a network of folks doing social justice, community building, and scholar activist work.

We would like to invite you and others you think might be interested to attend and participate in dialogue around activist/justice-related organizing work on and off campus, and workshops meant to enhance our shared capacity to build a stronger, informed, effective, and reflective community working for positive change.

Below are the details for the day, and if there are topics you specifically would like to have addressed at such a gathering, please do not hesitate to reach out.  We would like the space to be informed by the needs and interests of those who attend.
