SOAN April 2017 Colloquium: Repair to the Fountain: Why Teaching Still Matters in the Technology Era

Speaker: Dr. Teresa A. Sullivan, President of University of Virginia

Tuesday, April 18, 2017 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM
Johnson Center, #327

The title is an allusion to the following excerpt from Cardinal Newman’s “The Idea of a University”-- “… the general principles of any study you may learn by books at home; but the detail, the colour, the tone, the air, the life which makes it live in us, you must catch all these from those in whom it lives already … we must come to the teachers of wisdom to learn wisdom, we must repair to the fountain, and drink there.” President Sullivan will discuss about the enduring power of the relational approach to teaching in an age of disruptive technologies.
