Archaeologist Dr. Helina Woldekiros will be giving a presentation entitled “The Afar Salt Caravan Route: Insights into the Role of Trade and Exchange in Creation of the Aksumite State (50 BCE-CE 900)” on Monday, January 26, 10:30-noon, Johnson Center 240A (Robeson Room). Sociology and anthropology faculty and students are invited to attend her talk. Dr. Woldekiros’s research is concerned with human adaptations in the Horn of Africa, including local and regional trade in subsistence commodities, and with responses to climatic change in extreme ecological/environmental settings. Dr. Woldekiros received her Ph.D. from Washington University-St. Louis in 2014 and currently holds a post-doctoral position from the Volkswagen Foundation at Ludwig Maximilian University in Germany.
