George Mason University is pleased to announce an opportunity for **FUNDED** semester study abroad in Moscow and/or St. Petersburg, Russia for undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Humanities and Social Science during spring semester 2012 and spring semester 2013. The study grant provides an $800 weekly stipend for the semester and roundtrip international airfare for eight George Mason students. Those students will have opportunity to study alongside Russian students in the social sciences at the Higher School of Economics (HSE). Students may choose 4-5 classes taught in English, including two courses in a specific program of study. During their semester at HSE, Mason students will take a course in intermediate Russian to facilitate their Russian language acquisition. Internship opportunities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and in state bodies, such as the State Duma are also available.
CREDITS: 12-16 undergraduate transfer credits or 9 graduate credits
DATES: Spring semester 2012 or Spring semester 2013
FUNDING: A FIPSE fund from U.S. Department of Education will cover the cost of international travel and subsistence per diem for traveling students. Not included: Tuition, passport and visa fees, evacuation/repatriation insurance, International Student ID and mandatory Health Coverage (OSHC)
ELIGIBILITY: Students must have a 3.3 cumulative GPA and at least 45 credit hours by the time they submit an online application located here: https://chnm.gmu.edu/globaled/application.php Review of applications will begin **December 15**. Students may submit their materials after that date. Prior to the program students must complete the 6 credit language course RUSS: 110 Elementary Russian. In addition to the online application interested students need to submit the following: 1) Letter of interest (500 words) 2) Official transcripts 3) (2) Letters of recommendation.
