Part of the Emerging Scholars Symposium

Wednesday, April 10, 2024 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM EDT
Johnson Center, Meeting Room A

Angelica "Jelly" Loblack is a Ph.D candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Maryland and a current Ford Foundation Fellow. She earned her B.A. in International Security Studies and Criminology at the University of Oklahoma and her M.A. in Sociology at the University of South Florida. Her research examines how processes of gendered racial socialization and anti-Black racialization coalesce to shape the identity construction, political engagement, and embodied experiences of an increasingly heterogeneous US Black population. Jelly is particularly interested in the ways these processes manifest within familial, educational, and organizational contexts. Methodologically, Jelly employs a range of qualitative methods, including ethnography, participant observation, focus groups, surveys, and both formal and informal interviews. To date, Jelly's research has been published in Sociology of Race and Ethnicity and Sociological Perspectives.
