"In this talk I present material from my book "Democracy Reloaded: Inside Spain's Political laboratory from 15-M to Podemos." I focus on the ways in which the 15-M Indignados movement shifted from critique to the resignification of democracy and how movement praxis evolved around a central framework that encompassed three main ideational streams: autonomy, feminism and technopolitics (i.e. hacker ethics).

I interrogate the specific interpretive frameworks that underlie this conception of “real democracy”, showing first how they manifested in the occupation camp in Madrid, and then how they manifest in practice beyond the movements that brought them together.

This work breaks new ground by reinterpreting the significance of the occupation camps, by moving beyond formal models of democracy to interrogate the ideational and substantive frameworks that motivate collective actors striving for democratic renewal and by redefining our understanding of the impact of these movements after visible mobilization has subsided, highlighting in particular the often neglected role of the effects of political culture."
