Examines basic research methods involving observational techniques and procedures used in description and analysis of patterns, configurations, ethos, eidos, structures, functions, and styles typical of whole societies and cultures. Emphasizes case studies, unobtrusive methods, participant observation, longterm residence, choices of observer status role, recording data, uses of technical equipment, key informants, interviewing techniques, and ethical considerations in employing such methods and procedures. May not be repeated for credit.
Registration Restrictions:

Enrollment limited to students with a class of Advanced to Candidacy, Graduate, Junior Plus, Non-Degree or Senior Plus.

Enrollment is limited to Graduate, Non-Degree or Undergraduate level students.

Students in a Non-Degree Undergraduate degree may not enroll.
