Erin M. Stephens, a PhD student in the sociology program, was recently featured on the news outlet NBCNEWS for her work with The Beautiful Project in an online campaign called #dearblackgirl. According to NBC News, "The campaign was the brainchild of Stephens, who said she was inspired by a book entitled Letters to a Young Activist." The campaign invited Black women in the US and beyond to write letters to young Black girls out of their own experiences navigating Black girlhood. The collection of letters is currently featured on the organization's blog and will be showcased in a national travelling exhibit in 2017.
