Virginia's House of Delegates has approved legislation that would grant mothers the freedom to breastfeed anywhere in the Commonwealth, even at private businesses. The legislation is awaiting a vote in the Virginia Senate.

Channel 7 news interviewed sociology PhD student Olivia Blackmon, a mother of five and Ph.D student, who was told to stop breastfeeding at the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center & Aquatics Facility in Alexandria. In the interview, Blackmon says that a volunteer told her that it was unsanitary. Blackmon also speaks about women's rights and the culture of our society: "I am actually surprised that it has taken so long for a conversation like this to happen...Our culture should accept it as something that is part of motherhood and should be embraced as something positive."
