ANTH grad student speaks on online multi-player role-playing games

John Lunsford, a M.A. student in Anthropology at George Mason, presented some aspects of his research at the Fort Valley Library Lyceum on Saturday May 19, 2012. Fort Valley is located in Shenandoah County, VA. John discussed his research on individuals’ identity formation and the Internet, with particular attention to online multi-player role-playing games, such as World of Warcraft and Second Life. After the presentation, one attendee mentioned to Cortney Hughes Rinker (faculty in SOAN and also in attendance) that John’s talk was “fascinating” and made her stop and think about technology and the world today. The coordinator of the Lyceum is hopeful that more SOAN students and faculty will present in the future. (If anyone is interested in participating, please contact Cortney at chughe13@gmu.edu.)
