Mason Graduate Receives National Science Foundation Fellowship

Rebecca Mae Gimbel, a 2009 graduate from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, received the National Science Foundation's prestigious GRFP (Graduate Research Fellowships Program) award for her doctoral project, "Medical Diplomacy: Haitian Interpretations of Bolivarianism through Medical Aid". The award funds her doctoral studies in anthropology at Rice University, where she was admitted in 2009. She has previously held a National Science Foundation REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) grant, which allowed her to conduct research in Rwanda on women's participation in the illicit mineral trade in the summer of 2009.
