IIR Visiting Scholar, Dr. Oguzhan Dursun's, book chapter, "Emotions Decoded: Exploring the History of Turkish Society Through Movies (1965-1980)" was recently published in Anthropology and Sociology of Emotions: Theoretical and Ethnographic Perspectives from Turkey and Beyond. In his book chapter, Dr. Dursun focuses on family ties to explore emotions within a politically divided society by analyzing Turkish films from 1965 to 1980. Through the examination of 30 films, Dr. Dursun found that fear, anxiety, and familial unity highlight key social transformations during a time of polarization and conflict. The portrayal of close-knit families contrasts with societal breakdown, offering insights into how emotions shape both individual and collective responses to social realities. This study introduces a novel methodology in emotion studies, shedding light on the evolving relationship between personal emotions and broader societal change.
