The Science and Human Rights Webinar Series was developed by a Science and Human Rights Coalition project team of the American Association for the Advancement of Science under the leadership of Oliver Moles. This series focuses on scientific collaborations with human rights organizations. Dr. John Dale, who serves as an elected member of the Steering Committee of the Science and Human Rights Coalition will be moderating this series beginning June, 2022. The Movement Engaged Research Hub, where Dale is Director, is pleased to be hosting this webinar series over the next year.
This webinar focuses on the study of the right to water in communities within Haiti’s three gold exploitation permits.
- Conversation between different forms of knowledge: local and indigenous knowledge; scientific knowledge; human rights principles and law;
- Importance of community participation, if not leadership, in every phase of the study: how and where local knowledge trumps;
- Ongoing challenge to translate data into advocacy for community rights, particularly in the context of an absent State;
- Replicability of the study, and lessons learned for other contexts.
