Earl Smith, PhD was awarded the Lifetime Research Award from the College Sports Research Institute (CSRI) at their annual meetings in Columbia, SC, in April 2018. Dr. Smith’s legacy includes the award-winning book, Race, Sport and the American Dream, published in the 3rd edition in 2014. In addition, he edited Sociology of Sport and Social Theory, which was published in 2010, along with dozens of articles and book chapters in the area of sociology of sport. In 2001, Dr. Smith was elected by his colleagues to serve as the President of the North American Society for the Study of Sport.
