Nickolyn Jackson, an anthropology major on the Florence Experience Program, received a special recognition for her fieldwork

Nickolyn Jackson, a freshman anthropology major participating in Mason Geo’s Florence Experience Program at Centro Fiorenza, was awarded a 2018 Certificate of Achievement from CAPAFlorence for her anthropological field study of “Coffee Shop Behavior Across Cultures: Customs and Comportment at La Milkeria.” Her fieldwork examined how cultural norms are expressed in coffee shop behaviors, and whether and how those behaviors may transform in settings where Italians and study abroad sojourners from the US are in frequent and sustained contact. The semester-long research project, which involved participant-observation, questionnaires, and interviews, was launched as part of the course requirements for ANTH 382 Peoples and Cultures of Italy.
