Ozzy Raylene Whitley is originally from Columbia, South Carolina. She has resided in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina during her time earning her B.A. from Coastal Carolina University. There, Ozzy received her degree in anthropology and geography, and certificates in applied archaeology, cultural heritage studies, and geospatial technologies.

Her research interests include Appalachian studies, geography, and ethnomusicology. She is currently working on her M.A. thesis, focusing on the Appalachian musician experience and migration to DC. Other focus topics in her research are epistemology, ethnographic writing, cultural geography, and intersectional issues surrounding occupation, poverty, and social politics.
