Section Information for Spring 2023
Explores how human beings across cultures have historically expressed social anxieties through references to the one particular manifestation of the undead: zombies, figures representing a state in which human beings are animate and affective in the world around them, but lack consciousness or free will. The course looks at the cultural and historical background of zombies, incorporating cultural and medical anthropology, anthropology of religion, and cross-cultural perspectives. Students will critically analyze representation of zombies in popular media, looking at historical and current influences.
ANTH 314 DL1 is a distance education section.
