Section Information for Spring 2023

These have been difficult times. What do the crises and events of the past year mean for you and your future? How can we make sense of them? This introduction to sociology can help. Particular focus is given to developing what C. Wright Mills called “the sociological imagination” as students explore
the complex connections between individuals’ personal lives and broad social and historical processes. Students in this course will learn to think like sociologists as they are introduced to core sociological concepts, areas of investigations, and methods of empirical inquiry. You will learn to use various sociological perspectives in analyzing the social world and will be expected to demonstrate anunderstanding of those perspectives in fulfilling the course requirements. As part of Mason’s Core, students can expect this course to focus on developing critical thinking skills and becoming more self-reflective learners and creative problem solvers.

SOCI 101-DL4 is a distance education section.
