Ana Kay Yaghoubian

Ana Kay Yaghoubian received her bachelor's degree in sociology with a minor in women's studies from Mason in 2003, and a master's degree in public administration from American University in 2007. Currently, Ms. Yaghoubian works at the American Association of University Women in Washington D.C. as the science, technology, engineering and math manager, where she is expanding two programs for girls to A.A.U.W. branches across the U.S.

Ms. Yaghoubian uses the educational foundation she received at Mason to take on the challenges of building a STEM pipeline. STEM touches on many issues of gender and inequality, such as closing the pay gap, ending the implicit bias girls can face in the classroom, and the importance of female role models. The concepts and critical thinking Ms. Yaghoubian learned at Mason gave her a key understanding of why STEM education is critical for girls and its important benefits to society.

Recipient of the 2012 CHSS Women and Gender Studies Program Distinguished Alumna award, Ms. Yaghoubian not only received an education from Mason, but also found her passion for working towards equity for girls and women, a passion that she has turned into a career.
