Estel Lee had a very successful first year at Mason. A reflection of that success, she made the Dean's List and received the Freshman Academic Achievement Award.

She attended the Freshman Academic Achievement Reception in spring of 2011. Though in doubt about her choice of major, listening to the student speakers confirmed her interest. A speaker, as she says, "described various internships and job opportunities that were available to sociology majors." 

In acknowledgement of her academic performance in her first year at Mason, Estal was awarded a Freshman Academic Achievement Scholarship in spring 2012.
