Kayla Peterson

Currently, I am an undergraduate pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in both Sociology and Communications. Through the sociology department I have learned to refine my skills in researching and continue to hone my skills in applied critical thinking. I have gained priceless experience as a sociological research assistant exploring the relationship between elementary students and the connections to food they establish through the FoodPrints Program in D.C.

My academic interests focus on education, race, advocacy, and intercultural communications; anything that explores cultures and the intersectionality between identities that continue to build our multicultural world. On campus I am the Education Committee Chairperson for Honors College Black Ambition, planning member for the Black Excellence Gala, danced with the Nepalese Student Association. Additionally, I am heavily involved with the office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Education serving as a mentor with Student Transition Empowerment Program, training for Creating Community.

After my undergraduate degree, I would like to begin a career that involves: giving presentations; educating others about an issue, product, or organization/company; is project-oriented; and involves travel. Ideally, I would become a company representative, recruiter, or work doing public relations at an education oriented non-profit.
