Samantha Woodstock

Samantha interned at Mount Vernon as a Mount Vernon Archaeological Intern where she worked within the lab and on the excavation of the Slave Cemetery. Within the lab, she helped research artifacts and worked with the volunteers to wash, bag, label, and photograph items.

“As an archaeology field and lab intern for Mount Vernon, I had the opportunity to be familiar with archaeological technics within the area. This internship influenced my educational experience through practicing what I have been taught in class and using my skills of archaeology from other internships with the Fairfax County Park Authority and abroad. This particular internship experience was extremely unique because I had the opportunity to work with volunteers and students and teach them about the archaeological program. Outreach is extremely important to archaeology and, with programs like this, the field will grow.”
