The Political Crisis in the Social Sciences

Monday, April 20, 2015 11:45 AM to 1:15 PM EDT
Johnson Center, #240A

Do value judgments compromise social science research?

What is the purpose or ultimate goal of social science?

Do the social sciences have moral obligations?

By now, the differences between the views of economists and sociologists at GMU is legendary. Now is the perfect time for a dialogue between these two fields. In this event, economist Dr. Peter Boettke and sociologist Dr. Johanna Bockman will talk about the most important foundational questions of modern social science: Can social scientists rationally distinguish between what is good and bad for society? Do personal politics compromise the value of social science? Do researchers have moral obligations to society? Historian and former provost Dr. Peter Stearns will present questions and moderate the dialogue.

Pizza and beverages will be served.

Please RSVP!

Sponsored by GMU Economics Society and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
