&lt;p&gt;The BA in sociology helps students understand the social
forces that shape the world. Students learn how
social movements emerge from the collective efforts of individuals. They study the role that social forces play in defining racial
identities and gender roles.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h5&gt;&lt;a href="honors_sociology"&gt;Honors in Sociology &lt;/a&gt;&lt;/h5&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Highly qualified sociology majors may apply to graduate with honors in the
major.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h5&gt;&lt;a href="../../programs/show/LA-MINOR-SOAN-SOCI"&gt;Minor in Sociology&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/h5&gt;
&lt;p&gt;A minor in sociology provides a disciplined and systematic way to study
issues of justice, equality, freedom, and identity. A sociology minor
is considered excellent preparation for a variety of careers and an
excellent foundation for law school or higher education.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h5&gt;&lt;a href="http://immigrationstudies.gmu.edu/"&gt;Minor in Immigration Studies&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/h5&gt;
&lt;p&gt;A minor in immigration studies provides an interdisciplinary and comparative understanding of the immigrant experience, ethnic identity, assimilation, ethnic exclusion and conflict, and refugee situations. This minor will prepare students to contribute to the ongoing national debate about immigration.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h4&gt;Graduate&lt;/h4&gt;
&lt;h5&gt;&lt;a href="../../programs/show/LA-PHD-SOCI"&gt;PhD in Sociology&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/h5&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The PhD in sociology provides rigorous training in public and applied
social research including skills in research design, data analysis,
and substantive areas that are pertinent to many sectors in the
Washington, D.C., area. Graduates have the theoretical,
analytical, and professional skills that prepare them for academic positions in teaching or research.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h5&gt;&lt;a href="../../programs/show/LA-MA-SOCI"&gt;MA in Sociology&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/h5&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The MA in sociology offers students the ability to study general sociology or emphasize in an area such as sex and gender; crime, delinquency, and corrections;&amp;nbsp; race and ethnicity; and others. Students learn to apply sociological knowledge to the analysis of social processes and systems.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h5&gt;&lt;a href="../../programs/show/LA-MA-ACEL-SOCI"&gt;Accelerated MA in Sociology&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/h5&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Highly qualified undergraduate majors in sociology may apply to the
accelerated master's degree program and obtain both a BA and an MA in
sociology following satisfactory completion of 144 credits, sometimes
within five years.&lt;/p&gt;</body>
