looks at crime in the U.S., including its impact on society. The course includes a discussion of different crimes and crime theories. There also is an examination of the criminal justice system. Real life examples, personal experiences, and class room exercises are used in covering our topics. Students are provided the opportunity to examine current day issues (e.g., hate crimes; children of incarcerated parents; and the focus on neuroscience). The course objective is to help students look at issues relating to criminology from the viewpoint of a practitioner and/or an informed constituent

Focuses on causes and meaning of crime, with emphasis on adults. Patterns of criminal behavior, including property crimes, violent crimes, organized crime, white-collar crime, and victimless crime. Critical assessment of criminal justice system as a response to crime. Limited to three attempts.
