Section Information for Spring 2017

Environmental communication is NOT a sit-back-and-listen course.  In this class, we tackle projects such as

  • Supporting a state-wide environmental science fair for K through 12 students
  • Researching and reporting environmental projects on Mason's campus
  • Covering environmental research on topics such as climate change,  sustainability, species conservation, and sea level rise.

The class explores fundamental questions about connections between human health and the environment, best practices for learning science, and evidence-based approaches for protecting animals and ecosystems.

Students taking Environmental Communication will complete the class with a portfolio of products they create and experiences that will help them explore internships and jobs where supporting the health of the environment is focal.

The instructor, Dr. Katherine Rowan, is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.  She enjoys learning about science and teaching.  On major assignments, she uses a first-version, final version system, where students receive feedback on first versions of their work, and grades on final versions.  Please feel encouraged to contact her at krowan@gmu.edu if you have questions about this course.
